The Mermen
Special Event 10/25/97 @ The Exploratorium, SF

10/25 (Sat)........The Exploratorium - 3601 Lyon St., San Francisco, CA (under the skylight in the center of the museum)

Starting at 3pm. Jim Thomas will talk and answer questions about The Mermen and why the band's sound might be considered surf music, what the origins of our music are and how it relates to surfing and the "surf sound." The band will play at 4pm. We're honored to be asked to do this. The Exploratorium is an amazing museum about human perception (founded in 1969 by Dr. Frank Oppenheimer - the famous physicist) with tons of very cool interactive (for real!) stuff. Also around on that day will be:

Mike Eaton (of San Diego, CA - world renowned board maker) will shape boards, noon to 4pm.
Pete Noble (of Monterey, CA) will talk about and show examples of his extensive longboard collection, between 1 and 3:30pm.
various films about surfing will be shown starting at 2pm.: "The Swell," "Zeuf" and "Surfing For Life".
plus many exhibits...
